The bus ride from Anchorage to Seward showed us the best scenery yet along the National Scenic Highway. We drove through the Kenai Peninsula, skirting Turnagain Arm & Harding Icefield. We stopped to tour Tern Lake & glacier along the way. During the ride, we glimpsed lakes, rivers & glaciers. Just Beautiful. The glass domed train would have been super to ride through this section & it is available but wasn't an option for us.

Seward is nestled on the shores of Resurrection Bay under the shadow of Mount Marathon. It was one of the cities that was devastated by the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake & tsunamis. Its waterfront was forever changed. The boat harbor & docks were completely destroyed. Everything needed to be rebuilt following that tragic event.
In Seward, we stayed at the Windsong Hotel which again had charm. There was a main lodge then our rooms were in Cabin like buildings. After getting settled, we took a shuttle bus from the hotel to downtown Seward. We walked along the shoreline from the boat harbor to the Main drag. We passed a campground along the shoreline. We watched Salmon in a stream and people actually catching Salmon by pole & by hand as they swam into the bay. We also spotted a Sea Otter in the shallows. The harbor & docks were very busy with commercial fishermen unloading their days catch of Salmon & Flounder. Flounders are some big ugly fish. We ate at Ray's Restaurant with a nice view of Mountains & the bay from our table.![]() |
