About Me

My photo
We, Jan & Doug, are officially gypsies now. We have sold our house, dock & cars. We have moved aboard Day Dreams and will follow the sun and warmth. No more northern winters for us. Doug retired from his wonderful job in April after working for the same great company for 35 years. We will keep you posted on our location so our friends & family can come find us along the way. We would love to see you, please visit often. June 1, 2014

August 8-16, Mt Desert, Vinylhaven, Boothbay Maine

It's always an Adventure.....right!   We took a slight detour and visited Bar Harbor & Bangor Hospitals while in Maine. Doug experienced his first episode of Atrial Fibrillation. After visiting 2 Hospitals over 3 days, Doug was successfully cardioverted back to his normal regular rhythm.

A thousand Thanks to our wonderful "angels" who went out of their way unselfishly to help us. Special thanks to Glen: our stand-in Captain & Chef;  Jill: for expert line handling & emotional support; Lisa: for her KK experience & willingness to do anything needed; Ricky, Doug's ER nurse: for riding Doug's bike, the books & rescuing my phone; Kim & Gwen: The best ICU nurses ever and to Carmen for driving all the way to Bangor to pick us up & bring us back to Bar Harbor on her day off.  There are so many good people in this world! We certainly plan to pay all this kindness forward.

We left NE Harbor knowing that this was our farthest point northeast that we were going to visit.  Our plan is to visit some of the places we missed as we head back southwest now.  We took a short cruise & landed in Seal Bay on Vinylhaven Island.  A very, very pretty spot to anchor.  Not many houses around and lots of granite, beaches @ low tide & trees everywhere. We took the dinghy around @ low tide & did spot a seal sunning on some low lying rocks.
Look closely, there is a seal in center of photo

Our next day, Last Dance pulled in and we were so pleased to see them.  We hoisted the kayaks down, packed a lunch and the 4 of us were off exploring.  It was a beautiful sunny warm day and the area truly is beautiful.  We enjoyed our lunch on a big granite slab that slopes into the water.  That night we celebrated our last evening together (for a while) with a progressive meal: cocktails & appetizer on Day Dreams, delicious chicken, artichoke pesto pasta dish on Last Dance and finished with birthday cake (early celebration for Jill) back on Day Dreams. We hate to say Good-bye to these two.  We will keep in touch & see them this winter.

During today's cruise with beautiful weather and a calm Gulf of Maine, we saw a big shark swim by our boat. We were not prepared with camera in hand, so sorry no pics.  But it's fin, moved just like the ones in the movies.  Doug saw it's whole body & said it was gray & white and about 6-8 feet long. We keep hoping to see a whale but no luck yet.  We arrived back in Boothbay, ME. We stopped here almost a month ago and wanted to stop back here because they have a great Friends of the Library used book store and Carousel Marina who we moored with has a courtesy car we wanted to use to re-provision.  We stayed 2 nights and bought 15 books for $11.00, what a deal! Now where am I going to store all those books? It was actually hot today, maybe even hit 90 degrees.
